About Us
Gorgie City Farm is a Scottish Charity and a Company Limited by Guarantee. It is run by the community for the community. Everyone is encouraged to get involved.
Friends of Gorgie City Farm
Gorgie City Farm relies on its friends: the people who visit
regularly,
and
always donate a few pounds; the people who use its services, whether
it's Pet Boarding, Gorgie Garden
Services or Mobile Pets; and the people who
freely volunteer their time to muck out or garden.
As Manager David Drury puts it,
"Without friends, there could be no Farm. And we would
all be at a huge loss without it."
In recognition of this,the
Farm is re-launching its membership scheme - and asking all its friends
to become Friends. The new Friends of Gorgie City Farm will be even
more informed about what's happening, and even more involved with
what's going on.
All Friends will receive quarterly newsletters,
and more regular updates of Farm events. They will also receive the
rights of members: to sit in in meetings of the Farm's Board; and to
attend and vote at the Farm's AGM. And as a vote of thanks, all
consenting Friends will be included in the Friend's
Roll of Honour on the Farm website.
To become a Friend, the
Farm asks for an annual financial commitment. The size is left to an
individual's discretion, but
at least £5 is needed to cover admin costs.
Friendship
can also be gifted. What better Birthday of Christmas treat for someone
who loves the Farm?

The Board
The farm is managed by a board which is drawn from the Friends of the farm and also includes co-opted and invited members. They are appointed at the annual general meeting, which is held in Autumn, and office bearers are elected from Friends. The next AGM of the Board is scheduled for October 2010. All are welcome to attend. The board also meets quarterly to monitor development and plan for the future.

Janet McGregor
Gorgie City Farm's much respected Chair passed away on Friday 23rd October 2009. Although she had recently been ill, her death came as a shock. And the thoughts of everyone at the Farm, the board, the staff and the volunteers, are with her Family.
Janet was a scion of the Gorgie-Dalry community. For the last 30 years, she gave innumerable volunteer hours to a variety of community groups and causes. She was involved with the Farm from its very start - running it from time to time, and as Chair of the Board for the last five years. Her determination was her trademark. So too her wit. Janet was famed for her pithy one liners!
Janet achieved so much in her lifetime, helping and inspiring a great number of people. In death, she will be sorely missed.
