Gorgie City Farm

Fun Stuff

Lamb Gallery - 2010

Many thanks to those who sent in their lamb photos. It was impossible to adjudge a winner. So we're posting our three favourite snaps here. And commending Finlay Young, Rosie Wilson and India Edwards for their efforts. Well done!

National Poetry Day Competition!

Many thanks to all those who entered the Farm's National Poetry Day Competition. We received some wonderful compositions, and it was very hard for Juliet Wilson to judge. After much deliberation, she settled upon two winners - Ava May Barnaby and Tracey S Rosenberg. And the pupils of Pitenweem Primary were also highly commended for their efforts.

BUNTY, by Ava May Barnaby - age 7!

Bunty is often standing there with her big brown eyes
Staring back at you while Fudge lies.

Munching and chewing all of the day
Doesn't notice what other people say.

The grass is so sweet to a cow in a farm
She sometimes looks up in great alarm.
Or she looks down very calm.

There she is standing
With her mouth full of flowers
While the frogs have their afternoon showers

Standing in a meadow full of grass all so worn.

Fudge is often trotting along side
With her brown eyes open wide
Bunty doesn't move at all
She just listens to the bird's call.

There she is leaning over the fence
While Fudge is cleaning her underside.

The pigs are snorting to get some food
But Bunty is not in that mood.

Then it's Bunty's turn to get food
Now she's in that sort of mood.

She can see children rushing alongside
wanting to get a pony ride.

Bunty is my favourite animal at the Farm
As if she was a special charm.

PYGMY GOATS, by the Tracey S. Rosenberg

Pygmy goats, pygmy goats,
climbing on their frame.
Dancing up so light and proud
then dancing down again.

Pygmy goats, silly goats,
scuffling in the mud.
Butting, wrestling, tossing horns
in gleeful kiddish fun.

Pygmy goats, lovely goats,
daft and rough and wee.
Lovliest of all when they're both
nuzzling up to me!

Children's Parties

Party On Down at Gorgie Farm

Why not have your next birthday party for your children down on the farm? It's very different! We can promise you something out of the ordinary which the children will certainly remember. It's a very reasonable £7.50 per child which covers all but the birthday cake and pony rides (the latter being £15 extra for an 'ideal' sized party). Cameras essential!

Parties last about 1½ hours and we offer them at weekends excepting the Highland Show Weekend (26/27th June 2010, why not visit us there?), Fun day weekend (31st July 2010, all welcome!) and over the Christmas break - there are 2 slots available each afternoon.

Parties are ideally suited for 3-7 year olds, but we can usually make special arrangements for other age groups. Birthday Parties at Gorgie Farm are a happy event, in a safe and stimulating environment! Ideal numbers from 10-15, unless by prior arrangement. Not too many parents please; a smaller group is easier to keep together!

Sorry but we cannot accept provisional bookings.

A £20 deposit / booking fee is required to make your party booking. A written confirmation will be sent on receipt of this.

We welcome SPREE vouchers, which may be used against the party balance, payable at the end of your party.

Please note, we reserve the right to charge for the numbers booked. If less attend on the day we still have to cover our costs for food and staffing.

Contact the Parties Co-ordinator, details on the Contact Us page.
