The Future
Areas for Development
The demand continues to increase in all areas of the farm's activities. Visitor numbers are largely determined by the weather, but are also influenced by the farm's seasonal changes, improvements in facilities and attractions, and by reminding the public of our presence.
Volunteer opportunities, recreational activities and work experience places are fully booked and have a waiting list, but additional staff or improved facilities will enable these areas to expand.
Proposals for building developments are being considered to improve and extend the facilities available.
Additional funding is required for all these ambitions to be realised, and the farm is constantly looking for innovative ways to generate more income and to attract grants from a range of funding organisations.
The farm has a rolling three-year Business Plan [link], but essentially we must move with the times yet retain the basic features which have always made the farm so popular.
The currently enhanced 'social' role of the farm will be maintained without compromising the core activity of being 'the farm in the city'. The educational role will remain central, too, and environmental issues such as sustainability, as in wider society, assume more importance.
